President - Jeremy Chrzan, P.E., PTOE, LEED AP

Jeremy graduated from Drexel University in 2002 with Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and Delaware, a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE), and an Accredited LEED Professional. In addition to serving on the YMF executive board for the past five years, Jeremy is a project engineer in the transportation division at Pennoni Associates in Philadelphia where he’s worked for the past eleven years. His primary focus is transportation engineering and design with experience in geometric roadway design, drainage design, roundabout design and analysis, bicycle facilities, streetscape improvements, cost estimation, and quality control / quality assurance reviews. He currently manages Pennoni’s involvement in the PennDOT District 6-0 Highway Occupancy Permit (HOP) review contract, the SR 0322 Bridge Replacement project in Chester County, and serves as the design, policy and regulations ‘answer-guy’ for the Transportation and Site Design divisions.

Jeremy lives in Fishtown with his girlfriend Erika, and their three cats and two dogs. He enjoys gardening, bicycling, website design, prototyping, and launching “spaceships.” He also designed and maintains the ASCE Philadelphia Section website.

 

Vice President - Kazi Hassan, P.E.

Kazi works as a Highway Engineer for Pennoni Associates Inc in their Philadelphia office. He has been with Pennoni for over 5 years. Before joining Pennoni full-time, he gained experience interning at Pennoni and at PennDOT District 6. Kazi graduated from Penn State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. While studying at Penn State, his main focus was on Transportation Engineering. In between his classes, Kazi was an active member in multiple non-profit social/service orientated organizations. He was also active and held multiple positions for the Penn State Greek Council as well as his fraternity, Delta Sigma Iota Fraternity, Inc.

In his spare time, Kazi enjoys playing Basketball and biking. He loves to watch the Eagles, Sixers and the Phillies. He’ll be engaged before you know it.

Chris earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Penn State University in 2005. Since graduating, he has served as a project engineer for Timothy Haahs & Associates, Inc. in Blue Bell, PA where he specializes in parking garage design. Some key projects Chris has been involved with include the Towson Town Center Garage Expansion, the Camden County Improvement Authority Parking Garage, and the soon-to-be-constructed Corridor Parking Garage in Atlantic City.

Chris has served on the YMF Board for the past 3 years filling the role of community service co-chair as well as assistant secretary. He has helped to organize events with Canstruction, Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW), and the Young Engineer's Social with Engineer's Week.

In his spare time, Chris enjoys socializing with his friends and playing sports. He is an avid Ultimate Frisbee player and competes nationally with a competitive men’s club team from Philadelphia. Chris also enjoys going to Phillies games and other Philadelphia-area sporting events.

 

Assistant Secretary - Stephen Maakestad, P.E., LEED AP

Stephen graduated from Penn State University in 2005 with a BS in Civil Engineering and from Villanova University in 2007 with a MS in Civil Engineering. Stephen is a Project Engineer with Hatch Mott MacDonald’s Water Group in Philadelphia and his current project work mostly consists of combined sewer overflow control, flood relief/stormwater management design and water transmission pipeline projects. Stephen has also worked as an engineer in the Green Building Sector and Land Development.

Stephen is an active member of Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association. In his free time, Stephen enjoys travelling, kitesurfing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

 

Treasurer - Drew Sirianni, P.E.

Drew graduated from Drexel University in 2006 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. At Drexel, he served as ASCE student chapter president for the duration of his junior and senior years. Since graduation he has worked in the highway design group at McMahon Associates in Fort Washington, PA. Over the past few years Drew has worked on numerous Penndot Highway Occupancy Permit projects and ADA access improvement projects within the public Right-of-Way. Drew has completed thousands of curb ramp designs for PennDOT and is considered an ADA expert among his peers.

In his spare time, Drew enjoys activities such as: running, fishing, watching the Phillies, and going “down the shore.”

 

Professional Development Chair - Lindsey Glavin, P.E.

Lindsey is currently a project engineer in the Valley Forge office of RK&K. She is a 2004 graduate of Widener University, where she earned her BS degree in Civil Engineering and a 2007 graduate of Villanova University, where she obtained her MS degree in Civil Engineering. Since joining RK&K in 2004, Lindsey has worked several jobs for PennDOT, DelDOT, MDSHA, Fairfax County, and private sector clients. Some of these projects include Relocation of SR 0441 through the Borough of Columbia in PennDOT District 8-0, design of a PennDOT Park & Ride and Maintenance Facility in PennDOT District 5-0, and stormwater management and drainage design for the National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon.

In her spare time, Lindsey enjoys golfing, cooking, traveling, going to the beach, and hanging out with her husband Dan.

 

Technical Groups Chair - Marc Preim, E.I.T.

Marc is a Structural Engineer for STV Incorporated in Philadelphia, PA. He earned his BSCE at The College of New Jersey and has since worked for Medina Consultants prior to joining STV. He specializes in bridge design and has worked on the design of multiple bridges for major projects including the I-95/Betsy Ross Interchange, the New Jersey Turnpike Widening, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Widening.

In his spare time, Marc loves camping, hiking, mountain biking, playing soccer, running, and playing guitar.

Adrienne currently works in the Power & Utilities Advisory Division at Ernst & Young. Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Adrienne worked for Black & Veatch where her projects included the design of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Utility-Wide Energy Management Plans. She graduated from Washington State University in 2006 with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and completed her Masters in Environmental Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Adrienne is a licensed Professional Engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional.

In her spare time, Adrienne rides and shows horses and is an active member of Society of Women Engineers and American Water Works Association.

Bradley graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering. After graduation he returned to Pennsylvania to join Bergmann Associates as part of the Rail Group in the King of Prussia office. Bradley has worked on a multitude of rail projects for various clients, both freight and passenger, up and down the eastern seaboard from as far south as Miami, FL to as far north as Rochester, NY. Prior to graduation he interned for Bursich Associates in Pottstown, PA and Systems Design Engineering in Leesport, PA.

Outside of the workplace Bradley is a bleeding-green Eagles fan. In between diatribes about Andy Reid he spends his time playing lacrosse, softball, or touch football in old man leagues.

Ben is a recent graduate of Temple University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and he now works in the Structural Department at KlingStubbins. After spending a number of years working in Philadelphia's non-profit sector, Ben hopes to contribute a new kind of community building by working on adaptive reuse projects that turn unused assets into signature structures.

Ben enjoys exploring the city, watching the Phillies, rivers, and not being a full-time student.

Colette graduated from the University of Delaware in 2006 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. In college she was a member of the ASCE Student Chapter and the Community Service Sorority. Colette works in the Highway Department at Urban Engineers, Inc. Currently, she is working on the design for the PA Turnpike Northeast Extension widening project. She is the Social Media Administrator for the Engineers Club of Philadelphia and is a member of the Delaware Valley Engineers Week Committee. Colette previously worked at Adams, Rehmann and Heggan, Inc. in New Jersey doing municipal work.

Colette enjoys playing soccer and softball, running, snowboarding and traveling. She also likes organizing and planning travel events and parties. She is an avid Flyers and Phillies fan and her favorite place to get away is the (South) Jersey shore.

Jesse works as a Bridge Engineer for Pennoni Associates Inc. in their Philadelphia Office, where he works on design, inspection, retrofitting and monitoring of bridges. He attended Drexel University where he graduated and obtained his BS in Architectural Engineering and his MS in Civil (Structural) Engineering in 2010. He is a certified Engineer-In-Training having passed his Fundamentals of Engineering exam in 2010.

In his free time, Jesse is an avid Ultimate Frisbee player, spending many of his weekends traveling to play in tournaments with Philadelphia’s nationally-ranked co-ed team. He also enjoys running, playing soccer, guitar, attending local concerts and watching the awesome Philly sports teams tear competition apart.

Alex graduated from Temple University in 2003 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. At Temple, he served as ASCE Student chapter Concrete Canoe Chairperson for 3 years and Vice-President of American Concrete Institute(ACI) for one year. Alex currently works as a Structural Engineer for Hardesty & Hanover (Specializing in moveable bridge design) in West Trenton where some of his projects include “Emergency Statewide Bridge Inspection for the State of Maryland”, Rehabilitation of Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, Rehabilitation of Rt. 35 Bridge over Cheesquake creek in NJ.

In his spare time he enjoys amusement parks and road trips.

Jen is a Bridge Engineer with Pennoni Associates, Inc. in their Philadelphia office, where her project work consists of inspecting, designing and retrofitting bridges and other transportation related structures. She has been with Pennoni for over 3 years. Prior to joining Pennoni, she worked at Jacobs Engineering in Baltimore for 6 years. Jen graduated from Penn State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. She is a Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Jen has been an active member of ASCE, both here in the Philly YMF Section and the Maryland Section.

In her spare time, Jen enjoys playing volleyball and golf. She also likes to watch college football (especially Penn State games), as well as the Eagles and Flyers games. Outside of the sports realm, she likes to travel and spend time with her friends and family.

Eammon was a HOP/Signal Engineer with Traffic Planning & Design, Inc. in their Pottstown office. He was with TPD for three years. Before joining TPD full-time, he gained experience interning at PennDOT District 4-0 and A&E Construction, Inc. Eammon has worked on a variety of projects that require Highway Occupancy Permits to be obtained from PennDOT. He also does signal work ranging from new signals to the retiming of existing traffic signal systems.

In his spare time he enjoys golf, swimming, softball, Philadelphia sporting events, and hanging out with friends and family.

Jamie earned his Bachelor of Civil/Environmental Engineering degree from Bucknell University in 2000, and is currently licensed in Maryland and Pennsylvania as a PE. He started his career working for Kiewit Construction Company in Park Ridge, NJ, estimating projects and subsequently managing crews in the field for the Level (3) Fiber Optic Cable project. Following his year with Kiewit, he moved into the design side of engineering and joined Whitman, Requardt, and Associates, LLP (WRA) down in Baltimore, MD. After 5 years as a Project Engineer in the Transportation Department with WRA, he moved to Brudis and Associates, Inc. (BAI), headquartered in Columbia, MD where he worked as a Project Manager since 2006, managing open-end contracts for municipalities and for MD SHA. BAI recently opened a branch office in Abington, PA where Jamie currently serves as the Branch Manager.

Additionally, Jamie not only is active with ASCE-YMF, but also in ASHE, ACEC, and ITE.

In his spare time, Jamie enjoys spending time with his wife and their two dogs, and working on his house. He is an avid “weekend warrior” in flag football, basketball, softball, tennis, and golf….let him know if you need a tennis game!

Jon graduated from Drexel University in 2007 with a BS in Civil Engineering and a BS in Architechtural Engineering. While at Drexel, Jon was an active member of the ASCE student chapter, participating in the concrete canoe program and serving as chapter president his senior year. He was/is also a member of ACI, AEI and the Order of the Engineer.

After graduation, Jon worked at Urban Engineers with the bridge group, working on such projects as the 202 Parkway and the PA Turnpike Expansions. He is currently back at Drexel part time pursuing his MS in Engineering Management and is in the process of using his engineering and construction knowledge to renovate his and other residential properties.

In his spare time, Jon enjoys cycling, the Phillies and pretty much anything else that will get him outside.

Scott graduated from Widener University in 2009 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He is currently working towards his MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Villanova University with an anticipated completion of 2013. Scott is currently a highway engineer at RK&K in their Norristown office. Scott has worked on many projects for PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). Some of the projects include the Relocation of SR 441 through the Borough of Columbia and the SR 34 and Sunnyside Drive Intersection Improvement Project in PennDOT District 8-0, 2 Highway Restoration Projects on SR 222 and SR 422 in PennDOT Disctict 5-0, and the I-276/I-95 ITS Design for the PTC.

Outside of the office, Scott enjoys spending time with his friends, going to Phillies games, playing soccer, and running.

 

South Jersey Liaison - Zach Suralik

Zach graduated from Rutgers University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He is a highway engineer for STV Incorporated in the Philadelphia office. His main focus is highway engineering, drainage design and stormwater management. He has worked on projects such as the Pennsylvania Turnpike widening and the widening of Interstate 95. He has also done research for the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation on ground penetrating radar.

In his spare time, Zach enjoys hanging out with family and friends, playing tennis, mountain biking, and going to concerts. He also is a huge New York Jets and Yankees fan.

 

IT Chair - Chris Renfro, E.I.T.

Chris graduated from Drexel University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in both Architectural and Civil Engineering. Currently, he is a structural engineer for the City of Philadelphia in the Department of Streets, working towards his Professional Engineers license as an Engineer in Training. At the City he has been engaged with the design and construction of projects such as South Street Bridge, 40th & 41st Street Bridges, ARRA funded TIGER Bridges & Trails, and multiple consultant professional services contracts. His responsibilities include structural design, construction inspection, project management, as well as issuing hauling permits for oversized trucks and Super Loads. In addition to serving as President in 2008 for the local student chapter of the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI), he is heavily involved in the AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition.

In his spare time he enjoys cycling, snowboarding, skiing, waterskiing, playing soccer, tennis, bass guitar, and attending Phillies/Flyers games...and an occasional vertical flight.

 

Past President - Mike Wagner, P.E.

Michael is a Structural Engineer for Urban Engineers. Mike joined Urban in 2001 and currently works in their Bridge Department. A graduate of the University of Hartford in West Bloomfield, CT in 2000, he earned his graduate degree from Drexel in 2003 while working at Urban. While at Urban, Mike has worked on many different projects. He has worked on the design for widening of five (5) bridges along the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Valley Forge to the Schuylkill River and is currently working on a similar project for the Turnpike on the North East Extension. Along with those projects and other bridges for PennDOT, Mike has also helped out other departments for Urban. Included in those projects are structural designs for a new train station for NJ Transit as well as structural design for multiple locomotive repair facilities for Norfolk Southern. The repair of a warehouse damaged by heavy snowfall and the design of a working platform for docking large ships at Tioga Marine Terminal on the Delaware River are other interesting and unique projects.

In his spare time, Mike loves anything outdoors but especially enjoys skiing, fishing, and mountain biking.

 

Second Past President - Cathy G. Farrell, P.E.

Cathy currently is a project engineer in the transportation department at Michael Baker Jr. Inc.’s Horsham, PA office. Since joining Baker in 2003, she has worked several jobs for PennDOT including SR 202 Section 700 ‘The Parkway’ and the Gustine Lake Interchange. The Parkway project began as a new construction 4 lane expressway, but was later right-sized to a limited access arterial roadway. Cathy’s involvement included the preliminary engineering for the arterial road along the entire 9 mile length, as well as the final design of the 701 section (a 2 mile stretch costing $32 million in construction costs). The $20 million, ARRA, Gustine Lake interchange project replaced 4 structurally deficient bridges and realigned 2 ramps in urban Philadelphia. Cathy was the lead roadway engineer on this project and continues her involvement as the designer contact during construction.

In addition to roadway projects, Cathy has worked on several jobs designing shared use paths for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout Montgomery and Bucks Counties. She obtained her bachelors and masters degrees in Civil Engineering from Villanova University in 2003 and 2006 respectively. In addition to her role as Membership Secretary of the Philadelphia Section of ASCE, she currently serves as the Past President of the Younger Member Forum. She is also an active member in the American Society of Highway Engineers and Engineer’s Week Planning Committee.
